Hyperpigmentation of the skin is a common dermatological condition in which the colour of the skin generally becomes darker. This occurs when melanocytes – cells responsible for producing the pigment melanin – either increase their output or distribute pigment unevenly across the skin.

The result is visible dark spots, uneven tone, melasma, or environmentally induced pigmentation. Hyperpigmentation can affect all skin types and is often triggered by factors such as sun exposure, hormones, or inflammation.

Treatment approach for M.E.L.A. skins

The pHformula M.E.L.A. resurfacing system is a powerful blend of active ingredients uniquely formulated in a clay base to ensure even, rapid penetration. This system is specifically designed to reduce the build-up of pigment in the upper layers of the skin, improving the appearance of dark spots and discolouration across all skin types.

The M.E.L.A. powerclays™ combine the resurfacing power of acids that target excess pigment with precision while supporting the skin’s natural regeneration processes.

Visibly brighter, more even skin tone. Refined texture and radiance.

The M.E.L.A. powerclays™ are uniquely formulated with a targeted combination of acids, antioxidants, and retinoids, they support skin renewal while reducing the visible appearance of dark spots and uneven tone across all skin types.

M.E.L.A. powerclays™ deliver a synergistic formula of active ingredients including:

  • 4-Butylresorcinol – helps reduce uneven pigmentation while promoting a clearer, more even-looking tone

  • Mandelic Acid – contributes to reducing hyperpigmentation and post-inflammatory discolouration (PIH)

  • Lactobionic Acid – a polyhydroxy acid with strong antioxidant and wound healing properties

  • Salicylic Acid – a powerful beta-hydroxy acid that hells to unclogs pores and improve penetration of other actives

  • Lactic Acid – promotes gentle exfoliation and supports a brightening action on the skin

  • Phytic Acid – a natural antioxidant that inhibits tyrosinase and provides additional soothing benefits

  • Retinol (Vitamin A) – accelerates cell turnover, supports collagen synthesis, and reduces the appearance of uneven pigmentation while offering antioxidant protection

  • PH-DVC™ Delivery Complex – an advanced system that enhances penetration of actives while soothing, improving cellular oxygenation, and stimulating collagen and elastin synthesis
